Timing the Future: The Edge of Tomorrow

**This article has been revised from it's original 08/04/2024 publishing date for additional clarity**

Peace,

As a builder, there’s a lot I’ve learned about great products and great timing. It’s not just about innovation—it’s about knowing when the world is ready for that innovation to make its impact.

At Spatial Labs, we’re on the verge of something big, something that I feel redefines how we engage with the physical world. The future we’ve been building toward isn’t just a technological shift; it’s a shift in how we interact, and the timing has never been more critical.

In this note, I dive deeper into some core beliefs about where I feel things are moving and the importance of timing when it comes to public readiness.

Push Me to the Edge - Sincerely Wrappers

In one of his songs, rapper Lil Uzi Vert famously said, "Push me to the edge." While this line reflects emotional intensity in music, in technology, ‘wrappers’ push the edge in a literal sense. Traditionally, wrapper solutions have simplified complex systems by bundling services together. However, as we move forward, these wrappers are evolving to operate closer to the edge of networks and devices.

Just like Lil Uzi’s lyrics suggest pushing limits, in tech, wrappers are now evolving to embed intelligence directly where it’s needed most—at the edge. By moving intelligence to the edge, wrappers leverage real-time, on-device data, enabling faster and more context-aware interactions.

We’re going to be introducing a new generation of intelligent smart chips soon called 'Tags'—with a vision to bring, real-time intelligence directly to the products we use every day. These Tags don’t just connect products to the digital world; they enable those products to evolve, adapt, and react based on how we engage with them in the moment. In essence, the wrapper is now embedded within the product itself, creating a dynamic, context-aware interaction layer.

Localized Inference: Paving the Way for Interaction 2.0

One key concept I’m excited to share is 'localized inference of smart objects'—processing and decision-making directly on the product itself, without cloud reliance. This means products will understand their surroundings and interact with you instantly, creating a seamless, real-time experience.

Imagine walking into a room where objects adapt to your needs without prompting. This localized intelligence allows products to become context-aware and responsive, setting the stage for a new era of User Interaction 2.0.

Timing the Shift

Why is now the right time for this shift? Because the world is just beginning to embrace technologies like Generative AI and real-time interaction. By embedding this capability into physical products, we’re creating a future where interactions happen naturally and intelligently.

A Personal Commitment to Preparing for Tomorrow

This vision is about more than technology—it’s about preparing the world for a future where the lines between physical and digital are blurred. My focus has been on ensuring that when we introduce our Tags and new interaction layer, the world is ready. Our journey has been about making technology approachable and inspiring people toward a seamlessly integrated future.

Stepping Into Tomorrow: Perfect Timing for Our Store Launch

As we prepare for the launch of our Retail Store next month, it’s the perfect moment to introduce this new era of connected products. This store launch is not just about unveiling new products but about offering a firsthand experience of what the edge of tomorrow looks like.

This is more than a retail experience—it’s a glimpse into how we’re transforming interaction into something personal, seamless, and intelligent. Our Store and product launch mark the beginning of everything we’ve been building. The timing couldn’t be better.
